Not exactly. The top two finishers at the end of the contest I believe get free entry into the NTRA contest qualifier of their choice (up to $500), and $400 for travel expenses to a qualifier. You would still have to do well in a qualifier to make the big dance at the end of year.

However, it is free and I will be playing, as usual. They also give away some token daily prizes as well (hats, jackets, etc,). It is very nice of Keeneland to do the contest.

Jim,
this is what I see from the website. I DO see the things you mentioned above this too.

Is this I am copying here something else man? I admit to not being the brightest bulb in the fixture
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I. Description of Handicapping Challenge

Keeneland Association, Inc. ("Keeneland") is offering visitors to its website the chance to win cash and prizes by selecting a horse in each of Keeneland's live races in the 2007 spring race meeting, with the exception of the Royal Chase for the Sport of Kings. (These races will be referred to in these Rules and Regulations as the "live races"). Starting with an imaginary bankroll of zero Challenge Dollars, each player will have the chance to select one horse he or she expects to win or place in each of the upcoming live races in the Keeneland 2007 spring meeting. Players' imaginary bankrolls will not be debited for the selection of horses. If the horse selected by the player finishes first or second in the race, according to the final results as determined by the track stewards, the player's imaginary bankroll will be awarded Challenge Dollars equivalent to the payoff of a two-dollar wager as determined by the official Equibase chart (which may be accessed at www.equibase.com), with the following modifications. First, payoffs of Challenge Dollars awarded to the player's bankroll will be capped at 30-1 odds for first place (or a $62 maximum payoff for that race). If your horse wins, your imaginary bankroll will receive the win payoff only, not win and place. If your horse places, your imaginary bankroll will receive the payoff for place. Second, the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (April 14) is worth triple Keeneland Challenge Dollars, while the Ashland Stakes (April 7), Makers Mark Mile (April 13), Coolmore Lexington (April 21) and the Fifth Third Elkhorn Stakes (April 27) are worth double Keeneland Challenge Dollars. Payoffs in these races will be subject to the same payoff caps outlined above, and then will be doubled for those designated races.

After the last live race of each day, the player who has accumulated the most Challenge Dollars in his or her imaginary bankroll for live races held on that day will be declared the daily winner and will win a bonus prize selected by the contest coordinator from the Keeneland Gift Shop. It will be shipped within 30 days of the close of the contest. Prizes from the Keeneland Gift Shop may not be exchanged or returned for cash. In the event of a tie, bonus prizes will be awarded to each of the daily winners, up to ten winners per day. If there are more than ten daily winners for any given day, Keeneland will randomly select ten of the daily winners to receive bonus prizes.

At the conclusion of the Handicapping Challenge on Friday, April 27, after the last live race, the player with the most Challenge Dollars in his or her imaginary bankroll will be declared the winner and will win the Grand Prize of $3,000. The eligible player who accumulates the second largest imaginary bankroll will win the second prize of $1,200. The eligible player who accumulates the third largest imaginary bankroll will win the third prize of $600. The player who accumulates the fourth largest imaginary bankroll will win the fourth prize of $300. The player who accumulates the fifth largest imaginary bankroll will win the fifth prize of $240. Players who place sixth through tenth will win a gift selected by the contest coordinator from the Keeneland Gift Shop. Winners will be notified within 2 weeks of the contest close about collecting their prize. In the event of a tie based on total bankroll, a tiebreaker will be implemented in the following order:

total win prices paid
number of winners
highest win payoff
random drawing.
During and for a period of time after the Handicapping Challenge, Keeneland will maintain on the Handicapping Challenge Web Site an ongoing list of the bankrolls held by the top players and for each race, the horses entered, horses scratched, and the results and payoffs announced by the racetrack for $2.00 win bets.

ok here it is

Hey figured to clarify call the track!

got on the phone with Jim Goodman who is simulcasting operations manager. Turns out he is on a cell phone ON the track itself looking it over

told me the following

1) the track is in great shape
2) the horses are definitely safer on it
3) it's freaking cold as heck there right now

talked to him for a while. he went to his office and said this is the deal

1) first place - $3,000.00 cash PLUS an entry into any qualifier for the year end tourney. they pay up to $500.00 entry fee PLUS $400.00 in travel money.

2) 2nd place - $1,200.00 cash PLUS the same deal as stated above regarding qualifier and money available

3) 3rd place - $600.00 cash

4) 4th place - $300.00 cash

5) 5th place - $240.00 cash

6) 6th through 10th places - get nice gift from Keeneland. Last year was nice Logoed jacket man.

In ADDITION there will be daily prizes from the gift shop to daily highest total winners..

Thanx to Keeneland racetrack and Jim Goodman for helping us out here! This guy is VERY cool and LOVES horses.

The Keeneland people are first class. They have invited my buddy later this month as a guest to spend several days in Keeneland at the track and the nearby horse farms. I guess winning the NTRA tournament has its perks. :D
