Program slow

After the latest Microsoft Windows 11 update, program was become very slow. Clicking between tabs 2-3 seconds to show. Double clicks needed most of the time. Don’t if others experiencing same.

Yes, this has been reported! We've spent a lot of time so far troubleshooting this. On other computers also running Win11 for the same users, the behaviour does not exist - snappy response as usual. Not anti-virus, not Windows Firewall (exceptions added), not other programs consuming memory of graphics resources.

You could try rebooting Windows, also closing out Anti-virus software and other apps. If you want to try, you could try rolling back Windows 11 to a previous 'checkpoint' to see if it works then.

If I had a computer where this behaviour occurred, I could trouble-shoot and fix it. So far, I'm only observing other computers remotely via Zoom.

It's a puzzle. If you do it, let me know if the rollback to a previous checkpoint thing works. I will publish all findings here once they're known. Along with an update if it helps.

I rolled back update 2025-07 cumulative update (KB5062660).
Appears to have helped.
Thx Ted for suggestion

I suspected the same thing. Why does Windows constantly update? Can you stop it and how do you get it back to that specific version?

Several people have reported that the current version (Leverage/Pace) acts slow or with delayed screen drawing.

My working hypothesis about this is that it is due a a recent (Summer 2025) Microsoft Windows update. This version of RDSS was tested over more than a year, by more than a dozen people on more than a dozen different computers. This behaviour NEVER arose - else I would have addressed over than long development period!

Eddybugsy in this thread has reported that when he rolled back the Windows Update to a previous set-point - the problem went away.

Others who observe this behaviour could also try this and report here - please - if this resolved the problem for you. If I could duplicate this on my own 3 computers (2 Win11 and 1 Win10) - it would be easy to address, but I do not observe this problem though I HAVE observed it on others' computers.

FWIW, my main computer runs Windows 11 Pro Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100. It runs RDSS nice and smoothly. Also FWIW, I have 32 Gb memory and a SSD drive of 1Tb with a few hundred Gb storage space free. MS Surface 9.

If those who have chosen to revert to the previous RDSS version from last Summer 2024 - RdssInstall.22.2024.06d.exe (available on the RDSS Download Page - after the current version download) - would kindly report about whether this slowdown problem goes away in the previous version or whether it persists - I can use that to help me focus in on what parts of the current update might be responsible.

Please report that here! Thank you for your assistance on this!

how does one roll back their setpoint?

I asked my trusty AI assistant ChatGPT for commentary both on how to roll back to a previous point, and ALSO to speculate on what aspects of recent Windows Updates might contribute to RDSS' slowdown behaviour.

Here is that discussion - with advice how to rollback Windows 11.

Again - I would appreciate hearing from more people who are having this problem --

1. Whether the roll back (or uninstall a recent Windows Update) solves the problem, and

2. Whether the problem (before the roll back) also affects the previous 2024 version of RDSS (V22.2024.06d) - or not.

Thank you!

I rolled back 4 updates to June. No difference. Installed the 2024 RDSS version. No difference.

Most screens render quickly enough but seem to be affected by having the get TS ratings box checked. It helps to uncheck it after assembling all the races. It becomes more stable.

The most notable speed issue for me however is when I click the Analysis tab from the Entry screen. The screen changes quickly enough but I have to wait about ten seconds at times until I get an active tab to continue. Eg…I hover over the leverage tab with my mouse and wait for it to turn orange so I can click it and proceed. Ten seconds. This particular speed issue isn’t affected by the TS ratings toggle.

I don’t think thats a screen build thing. Either Windows 11 or RDSS isn’t keeping up with the natural flow of things.

Most of the stuff suggested by your Chat buddy is beyond my understanding of what is going on behind the scenes. But it could be in there somewhere.

Mike, I certainly empathize with your and others' experience here!

Your experiments show a few things -

1. This issue is with Windows 11, not with RDSS per se - since the same issue plagues the previous - years-old - version. Which makes sense, since I did absolutely nothing to the code responsible for displaying the User Interface, aside from the new Analysis screens and some more info displayed on many screens.

2. Despite rolling back numerous recent Windows 11 Updates, the problem persists. I also do not understand a lot of the detailed hardware/graphics trouble-shooting advice by ChatGPT, but I am starting to suspect certain combinations of graphics hardware and Windows 11 versions.

3. Despite public and private reports from a handful of users (8 or 9) and allowing that I have no way of knowing how many RDSS users are active this summer since I'm not getting TrackMaster accounting at the moment (though it must be at least 50 or 60) -- there must be many more RDSS users with NO problems (or who I know have temporarily solved their problems by switching to another computer, maybe also Windows 10).

All of which further suggests combinations of hardware and Windows versions as culprit.

3a. As mentioned above - a dozen people and more computers than that helped test this update over more than a year - with no signs that my design of RDSS suffered from appreciable degradation. The issue is recent and intermittent (the worst kind of bug).

4. AGREED - maddening for those who suffer from the problem  I continue to see NO degradation of RDSS performance - screens move snappily from one to the other, with TS Ratings enabled, etc - just the way I designed it. Two Windows 11 computers and 1 Windows 10 computer. I have ALL the latest Windows updates installed on ALL my computers. I run a MS Surface 6 and 9, i7 core processor (16 and 32 Gb memory) also a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga i5. I would post a RDSS performance video if it would prove anything, but it wouldn't.

5. I am deep in the middle of a different emergency right now - updating RDSS to work with the new TrackMaster Store so we can get some revenue flowing again (thanks everyone who has made a payment for their August data usage).

I'm estimating that the many more people who are NOT having a slow-down problem would first like to get data flowing properly from their TrackMaster accounts (and TrackMaster/Equibase would like to get off my back).

After delivering that update in the next few weeks (without doing anything to address this slow-down issue) - I will delve more deeply into the detailed technical advice provided by AI to troubleshoot what plagues some people's RDSS usage. If I could get my hands physically on a computer which demonstrates the problem - it would make things so much easier to diagnose.

Also FWIW - this Autumn, I have long had a plan to migrate the whole programming environment to a much newer version of my PowerBuilder tools, with explicit compatibility with Win11 and who knows what other under-the-hood compatibility improvements. Maybe this will help. Maybe another Windows 11 Update will make the problem all go away. Anyone keeping an eye on public comments on various horror-stories about Win11 Updates gone wrong will appreciate the random interruption to normal life use of favourite apps, subsequently resolved (or not) whereupon normal breathing resumes (maybe). Short of migrating the whole program to an online app running in a browser (:eek:) - we're stuck with Windows.

6. If someone with more time right now - and presumably more clever than I am - could delve into the technical advice given in the above ChatGPT response, or troubleshoot it by other guided advisor - I and everyone else will be truly grateful.

7. FWIW, if anyone has experienced this slow-down problem on Windows 10, that would also be useful input.

Thank you - and stay tuned ...

Ted
