An interesting allowance race NW3 with several stakes horses. The 3 narrowly missed in the Razorback G3 last year. Beware the aides of March!

Isn't it the kiss of death to post a match up race with an entry :)

Beware the ides of March

Will see what happens with scratches

Is it a problem having an entry with a matchup race?

I see the 3 and 5 horses going 23.1 in the first quarter and neither looks like a fighter so I think it will go OTE. My contenders:

4: Big internal fractions with an ability to sit close recently. Can close from further back. Will Take Charge is not in this race.
7: Likes to sit a little further back but has nice power moves from So Cal.
8: OTE but can't run to the internal fractions the 4 and 7 can. OUT
9: Too late.

The 4 is my choice because he can sit right behind the 3 and 5 and still power move.

Is this race 'OP #6 Post Time 3:45 CDT' turned out profitable and a good
teaching lesson? - - DSL

Hi Tim
I was wondering why you felt the 3 would be any challenge to the 5
It seems like # 5 wss going to the lead as It always dose. But outside of the
2 races about a year ago when has the 3 been a early horse ? Didn't Hat say something about a horse not being able to get on top of fractions as it once did ?

Hi Tim,
This is an oversight of mine for not knowing yet how to choose a paceline for a race like this, most of these horses are 4+ years old and ran many, many days ago... how can I get a correct Fulcrum, still use the last line? As Bill V. pointed out, but not official, that we use an Entry 1 & 1A for the Matchup.

Thanks.

Bill,

Hat did say that. In retrospect, you're right. My reasoning at the time was:

Last Race; Sprint off L/O; I forgave this race.
Race before: Close against a 22.7 in a one turn mile; I forgave that one too.
Third back: Was second against a 46.3.

Too me, he looked like he could run against a 23.1 which he had 5 back. It also looked like the 5 could handle a 23.1.

Two mistakes here:

Sometimes I forgive too many subpar efforts. And, I didn't look at the break positions. For the 3, it was 7,3,3,1,5 in the last 5 whereas for the 5, it was 2,3,3,2,2,1,2 in the last 6. Based on that, the 5 was going to get the lead.

Thanks for the question. It allowed me to revisit this and learn something about what I did wrong in this race.
