What have I learned about RDSS lately?
Now this could be a book, as I have been taking in alot lately and believe t or not , I do remember some of it.
RDSS is definetely derived from Doc Sartin's Methodology, and Jim Bradshaw too, as well as all the others who at one time beacme Methodologist's too, way too many to list here. What Makes this so special is that it is not a black box, oh no, you must make it your own, and you can use this tool in so many different ways, with all the options it has, and just talking to a few of you letely, everyone does just that. Model making has many different possibilities, because the pacelines you choose may not be the one's someone else does, thus changing the results from one person to another. And last night I found out , still not sure how to use it, but that in the exported model info, it turns Pink to highlight info you would be interested in, who knew, not me, til last night. Wager Decision Forms from past follow ups provide for those unsure of your wager decisions a way to evauluate them and see where you are most profitable, if used prorperly, this includes me, they are simple and easy to use. Now if I would just use them, who knows how high my win perceentage could go? POW, Phscology of Winning, where else do you get the biggest part of handicapping discussed as we do here, to be a winner you must be a winner, is it that simple, Doc said Yes, and he seemed to know a little about this subject, so I will trust him on this. being in control mentally is the biggest part of being a winner, being happy with your life and confident in your selections, taking all the emotions out of your plays, the decision part of it at least, as Even Doc must have enjoyed it when his horse came in 1st, I know I do, especially at a price. Another important aspect of this approach in consisitently doing the same thing over and over, trusting your PL selections and choosing your contenders the same all the time, this way you will see what is working thru the data gathered from your plays, where if you constantly changed your decision making you would never know , and or remember, what won and what method lost. I could go on and on here and may come back yto add more, but some say I write too much as it is, and they hate to read these long winded post's, and I do listen to you, so for now I will end this 1st post on this subject. RDSS to me is awesome, I still need some work to be done, like learning to use the Open Office Calc and doing the record-keeping that the winners here do, as few are winners without it, to win you must work at it, which includes all aspect of the Methodology, and yes that means a little work, but the rewards are well worth it, ask those who win , they will be happy to tell you' God Bless Patrick |
Patrick
Thank you
Its because of you that I finally had me eyes open to the value of record keeping I still am not sold on modeling , But at least you got me to make decision models and track profiles It has improved my ROI greatly Thanks for your letter to the group Have a great time and listen to your peers and soak in the POW / The Sartin Methodology Bill |
'
Hey Bill Glad I could help you figure that out , or at least the importance of it, most of the better Players keeps journals of everything and journals for different tracks too, pretty extensive, but they are winning and I am not, so... Something else I picked up on this week past, is that I have been wasting my download time on Saratoga only, as well as Monmouth and Del Mar too, but really only playing 2 tracks, Saratoga mostly and some Monmouth, (for which I win more at Mon, than the Spa). Yes The Spa is the hardest track in America to beat, no wonder I was losing here, everyone was losing here, it is a tough tough track, everyone, except Barb maybe, but she has her journal too, works hard and deserves the wins she got and you could see her working hard to find them all day long. Everyone knows, I recently won the contest here, and what did I do, with unlimited downloads available to me, I only downloaded Saratoga Mostly and never really looked into what tracks might be worthy of playing, (worthy being profitable). The Long story made short, I was an Idiot trying to beat Saratoga , when I had all the tracks in front of me, all of them and never once looked into them, sad very sad. patrick |
Seems that recordkeeping , while needed is for some like me, very hard to do, even when I tried the Video Proffessor to learn Excell, I was unable to do so, sorry.
Now I got Open Office , why because it is free, I could afford it, can't yet afford Excell, but do really want to model a bit and record keep. It seems that many user's know it all, ( excell and programming stuff) and a few like me know nothing about it and we can not teach each other, and those who do know are too busy and were too bust this weekend too, of course, time was a premium, not enough of it to go around. I need the following things to help me Wager info needed Track Race Type and Distance ( example 8.3f MSW50k 2yr fillies or 5.5 Nw1 CL5k 3yr up) Typa of Wager ( Win Dutch or exacta ) then to model with, just the BL/BL Screen info should be enough to model with no-Why? WHY IS THIS It would all fit into 1 page when modeling, right now the current export to model info is about 8-9 pages wide and can not be printed out or studied by me easily, what abpout you guys and gals? That is why... Patrick SO who could help me do this, and actually help me do it, by walking me thru it a dozen times or so till I got it, can eneter data and read it and then evauluate it and then print too, this I need to learn to do to be a winner, right, of course so.. patrick |
Pad and Pencil
Patrick "If you don't have all the tools use the tools you have "
No law says you have to export and no rules say look at all the factors My opinion KISS keep it simple why not just use a $1.00 spiral notebook you can get at any dollar store and make about 10 columns with the heading YOU and Only you feel are worth modeling just write down the rankings of about 6 factors you feel are vital to winning Do this after each race. It wont take you much longer than it would take to opening up Open Office, cutting and pasting and scrolling to the factor you want to track. Ted is a great guy He is also making a product that everybody can use. He has a wide range of clients who want things. That does not mean you must use them Just because some can and want to auto model every factor If its not for you work with something that interest you Barb is amazing. She works very hard and takes what she does very serious. Her rewards are a result of the work she puts in You will do much better once you focus on one thing to do better than you did yesterday the only thing that matters is your ROI once you record your highest ROI in a 20 race cycle You have a goal That is to get a higher ROI If you focus on that you will win |
Hi
Thank's for the great suggestion. Glad you suggested this as this how I give a race a quickie going over X's & O's early, or OTE before I tighten the nuts and bolts to the race before using rdss |
Patrick,
Looking at today's races I see 33 non-maiden Claiming and Allowance sprints. None of them are at Saratoga. One is at Del Mar. You can handicap and win most of those races without a track model. Play only when the track is listed as "fast." If you can't win those, then you probably shouldn't be betting real money. You've already got the data. Free. Utilize it. Take advantage of the opportunity while you can. This is beginning to sound like a broken record. |
Patrick, you saw my book. When I get the BL narrowed down to five horses,I list them in the book and put their running style to the left of the horses number. On the right I put the morning line odds and at the end of the race I put the final odds. I also record any notes I have pertinent to the race itself or any horse. I circle the winner and beside it I record what readouts were #1 or 2 on the BL screen and circle what level it was on the BL level. That way I can go back quickly if a similar race comes up and see if any readouts coincide.
I also do modeling, but this book is a quick reference for me and I do it religiously for every race. It goes everywhere with me (at least the current one) along with my computer. |
Thank You Barb and David
Yes David at times it does sound repetitive and that is because it is. That is part of this issue, I hear this and that and some takes hold and some doesn't, or I try to do it and things happen that prevent me from following up with, like modeling and my in ability to get the use of OO or Excell, who's fault, mine because I do not get the right training neccessary , and or do not quit my job and dedicate more time to this, which has crossed my mind, only briefly. Also how do you find the number of races and type so that I could at least download AND PRACTICE THEM, please. Patrick |

1) You get a new toy/tool/gizmo/instrument/device. It's only natural to play with it, hit all the buttons, chime all the bells, make everything light up, see what different things do, etc. It's going to take a while to process all this. 2) Then when you feel reasonably confident you look at other ways to press all those buttons. (And if this is me, and it's a gambling gizmo, then I'm losing small amounts of money the entire time I'm practicing...which is okay, I chalk that up to part of the learning experience...it's expected, a cost of doing business). 3) You start winning. And winning. You now become overconfident and really start sending it in. You get the "King of the World," "can't lose," "this is easy," "I'll quit my job" feeling. 4) Reality comes rudely knocking at your door; you start losing and with that your confidence goes down the drain. The harsh realization that you're not going to win all the time sets in. Drat. Boulevard of Broken Dreams. 5) Now you more or less start over looking for the "perfect" solution. 6) You have now entered an endless loop. How do you get out of this? Focus. Take baby steps. Don't start off thinking you're going to win the Kentucky Derby superfecta. Optimism is fine, but let's toss in a bit of reality. Okay? Start off with baby steps. Turn $200 into $400 by making small win bets. $6 to win and $4 to win. If you're not comfortable with that then bet $3 to win and $2 to win. Double your bankroll before you even think of playing exotics. You need direction. You need to develop confidence. You need to build a bankroll. Get a teacher. Or, find a mentor. Or, figure out a plan. My suggestion to you was to only play claiming and allowance sprints because they are the easiest to win using pace-oriented software like Sartin programs. Double your bankroll then consider adding other races to your repertoire if you want. But baby steps first. One way you could go is to watch Ted's videos over and over until you fully understand what he's doing. Adapt his approach. Make it your own. You could also concentrate on doing the match-up without software. Although this is very difficult, requires a lot of time and not many people can do it well (I sure can't). Still, that's another way to go. You could look at Binder's Val approaches (Bill V) and do exactly what he does. He even spells it out for you step-by-step. All these things work, Patrick. Try them on for size, find one you're comfortable with and make it work for you. The point is to pick one course of action and see it through. Stick to it. Hang in there, Patrick. Remember the old cartoon, "Slowly I turn, step by step..." Ted can probably tell you the easiest way to find claiming and allowance sprints. One way would be to download everything, open the cards and look for them. Here are the first two cards for today. Open them and you can see what's available. |

The following is so true, as for a Mentor, well I been looking but they are tough to find, as for a person, I have found a friend who play's , but he uses other software to win with. I have faith in this one and feel that with much more work I can win more frequently using RDSS, but yes I must put in the time and work. But being a winner is the bottomline, no? Some say once eveything is in place the time it takes is very little, but setting it all up takes time, and going thru a dozen 20 race cycles takes time, and all the record-keeping that goes with it takes time, this will not happen overnight. But after the get together this weekend, it does seem some people, like Barb are winning, and the rest of us were struggling , at least with the Spa, as I hit Monmouth much more than the Spa, and then it was M/L 1-3 favs that I hit with, no real value, or maybe no real proper wager control to miximize the potential profits. I was unable to obtain anyone to work races with from the gathering this last wknd, but then... Gotta run, long hours again today at work Patrick |
Patrick, I spent time before going to the Spa doing all the races and building up my model.

I do not Model, yet have repeatedly tried to, even took Video Proffessor courses , to no avail , yes that is right I did not learn from it, 3 video's and using 2 of them ffor days , I still had no idea what to do, but not because I did not try. Still , RDSS is fun and easy to use, and choosing the right races with all the proper Pacelines to choose, then it is pretty cool watching how good it really is, and easy on these old eyes. Patrick |

Pick ONE TRACK and play it. DON'T try to keep up with other people. I don't care if you only play it on the weekends. DO THE WORK RIGHT EACH WEEKEND. LEARN, then worry about more tracks when you have the time and when you become more comfortable with what you need to do. |
Patrick,
You DONOT have to model to win. Like FTL said pick one track and stick with it, no modeling, but complete at least 10, 20 race cycles at the same track. Modeling in my opinion is for those having a lot of time to do such. I don't model because I don't have time but I'm still a winner. I do good to get to the simucast a couple of times a month since Texas can't bet online. Dude, I know that you are struggling but take the advice of previous posts and follow their lead and advice. I dare say that most every one on this site has been where you are, certainly including myself. A good methodology for me is to simply follow Bill V's procedure. It's simple. Remember KISS!!! Post again when you have about 5 cycles done. You can do it but you must stay FOCUSED. Good Capping, Bud :) |

I saw everyone who was there spend time sitting with you, going over their handicapping process. I spent considerable time and money organizing not only the whole weekend, but also the Friday evening seminar, where we went over 3 races (and not just from my personal approach), where we arrived at the winner in the Alabama (which winner you bet against, mysteriously, because you used not the best paceline, not even the 2nd best paceline, both of which would have gotten the winner on top - but the 3rd best paceline for Blind Luck  which of course rated her worse). There was mostly rapt attention during the seminar, but I observed you occasionally dozing (or was that deep concentration?) On Sunday it was raining, but the remainder of the group showed up to handicap, bet and watch the races - except you, who skipped that day. Finally when no one but my mother and I and Charlie were left and you emailed and said you were not coming, we also then left and continued watching and betting from our apartment. I told you before the weekend that I would spend time with you - all you had to do was ask, and make the time. You asked me questions several times throughout the weekend and I felt that I sat with you and answered every specific question you asked. Yet my sense was, as I was answering your questions, you were already thinking of other questions or not really being attentive to what I was saying. Sunday was a perfect time to sit and concentrate, with few others to distract us - and even (and only) my mother to give you an alternate perspective in case maybe you don't like how I present things. But avoiding the inclement weather was perhaps more important to you than getting one on one instructional time. You showed me a Wager Decision Form you filled out, totally incorrectly according to the instructions which had to have accompanied the Follow Up from which you obtained it, and I explained to you the correct way to fill it out and how to use it. Yet you subsequently ask here in another thread how to create such a document and how to use it. You didn't like my advice!? In June, I negotiated for you FREE access to Unlimited data for RDSS (through September 15) and FREE use of the software so you could study and prepare for the big event. Data which costs others $165 per month. Yet you downloaded only a few tracks a few times per week. Patrick - you have said you were waiting and focusing since a long time on this weekend gathering in Saratoga to boost your game and understanding of Methodology tools and learn from some experienced users. So - how did that work out for you? Unless I misinterpret your post-mortem of the event, it looks to me like everyone else showed up but you, who maybe half-showed up. Patrick - please re-read the Seminar Workbook handout, page 1, point #4, final paragraph (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpos...20&postcount=2). My opinion is that you believe deeply that someone else other than you is the key to your success. You have asked SO MANY QUESTIONS on this Forum, on the PaceAdvantage Forum and on the HorseStreet Forum - I can scarcely imagine what other question remains to be asked - or answered for you - that will do you more good than the dozens or hundreds of nuggets of advice and encouragement (and days of time spent replying to you) representing lifetimes of handicapping blood, sweat, tears and triumph given freely by so many. There is no one else! No one 'out there' who can listen for you, focus for you, work for you. As the saying goes - you can lead a horse to water (and fill the trough with water, and build the trough, and buy the land and build the barn and raise the horse, etc, etc) - BUT, you cannot make the horse drink the water. That is up to the horse, or else it goes thirsty."Unless you employ consistency, you will produce erratic results and will become discouraged, blame the tools and ultimately believe that the source of any failure lies outside yourself." My opinion is that you are probably not cut out to wager on horseracing other than as a hobby, and with minimal stakes, as others might enjoyably bet the weekly lottery or participate in any low-cost hobby. Perhaps you lack attentiveness due to neurological or physiological issues beyond your present ability to control - that is not for me to speculate on - but surely attentiveness and focus are crucial requirements for any success in this particular game. It is no poor reflection on you if you do happen to lack these traits. I once imagined being a professional musician or poet, possessing some small talent there (-small-talent-and can't-sing-) but I determined that this was not realistic. Neither was pro basketball, hockey or politics. No shame in that: but my temperament did not match those endeavors. One's current experience of reality always matches one's core beliefs. Thus, you can tell a lot about someone's core beliefs by observing their current reality. Perhaps I am wrong about this (or you will prove me wrong by your actions) but I don't think so. I don't know why you did not ask for more help this past weekend, or pay more attention to the help given to you. Perhaps you believe that you are not smart enough, or deserving enough or possess enough 'computer skills', or have difficulty learning. Whatever. Please consider this suggestion: that you pause for a while and reflect on whether possibly the whole past few months, and perhaps culminating in the past weekend, has been a clear-cut, long-running answer to you from the 'universe' if you will, on the question: am I cut out for this? For myself, I truly don't know what more help I can give to you (or want to). But please don't say that folks were too busy to try to help you this past weekend in Saratoga. That is just wrong - and it disrespects those who tried. Ted |
Rejection prior to investigation
For ted and mike and, especially "mum" wow
|
Well maybe
Well, maybe there was a mike in there somewhere, or as tehe great sage once said "you do the math" or was that meth
|
Patrick, Dont let these comments get you down, have you ever stopped to think maybe RDSS is not the right program for you.

I even attached a track model for his use that I made as an Open Office spreadsheet. It already had been filled in for a Belmont meeting, all he would have had to do was follow the format - all the formulas to determine percentages of the five finalists were already there. I offered further assistance yet I never got any inquiries or even a thank you. He was even in another forum seeking to borrow money. That's not gonna help him if he does not have the discipline. I'm convinced that you could tell him that there is a DRF at the corner store reserved just for him that has the winners already identified in it, all he has to do is wager on them. He would ask for someone to go pick it up for him. It just appears that others here and elsewhere have reached a saturation point. That may just be the cause and effect of Patrick having reached his own saturation point. Why? Because he's not focusing, he's overwhelmed - whatever. Can't deal with spreadsheets? Get a looseleaf binder and graph paper. Twenty-five years ago, that would have been what most of us were doing. If it's too much to adjust to the learning curve of the methodology, a spreadsheet program and RDSS, something has to be adjusted. He knows he usually is wasting his money on exotics, but he also admits that he can't resist them despite all the advice to do otherwise. He's told to pass races, avoid odds-on horses, but he does it anyway. One can't make their first start in the Kentucky Derby, there are stepping stones. Patrick has the expectation of winning the roses when he hasn't even broken his maiden. He has had the advice of some of the best trainers in the world, he's had a free lunch tossed to him courtesy of Ted, but he's complaining of not getting his dessert yet he wasn't there when it was handed out. Ted used an old phrase that I'll paraphrase slightly - you can't lead a horse to water but you can't make him think. |
Regardless what the problem is no sense making the guy feel bad.
|
Just to be clear, my words above were not written out of any disrespect for Patrick. In all my dealings with him, in writing, over the phone or in person last weekend, he is always polite, a gentleman and respectful himself towards me and others, offering to help with logistics in Saratoga any way he could.
My words were, rather, written to clarify an observed mis-reporting, and also perhaps out of a frustration and even sadness at seeing his dreams frustrated by ineffective behaviours. I feel strongly, despite whatever advice folks may have for him, that he (like ALL of us here) deserve utmost respect as individuals, even when it appears delivered along side 'tough-love'. Just saying (and not in response to any particular comments so far). Ted |

He's admitted to all sorts of life-changing experiences of which I won't go into detail. That kind of personal drain is not the kind of thing that can co-exist with what he is trying to accomplish. I went through a personal crisis a few years ago that left me wifeless, broke and jobless. Even with what I've learned about handicapping from the previous 30 years, it was not the time to attempt it again or think of it as a full time gig as I had to get other things in order, such as how was I going to pay the rent and other expenses such as those of my son who was also abandoned. I had other elements of my life that had to take priority and this may be the case for Patrick. He hopefully will feel better about himself then and then try immersing himself in all the complexities of handicapping. |

Maybe RDSS is not for me, fine , there has been good advice given to me here, on PA and HSH when I was there, here with this last contest winnings , either I again did not hear things right, or there may have been told to me in a very cryptic manner, and of course I did not follow it., what you ask, well this. I got unlimited data for 3 Months, but was overwhelmed and still kept to NY tracks, Belmont , which I did very well with, and Monmouth, which I do fairly well, 40% or so, but supposedly I was to find other tracks to play during this Free 3 months and of course , I neglected playing anything else , as to me no one really told me leave Saartoga alone, do this track instead, or choose rorm these 3-5 tracks as RDSS does well there, no I did not get that from anyone, sorry, I was determined to beat Saratoga before last weekend got here, and I failed , as I just kept to task with Saratoga getting ready for this big weekend when it came, and tried to model , sorry I can not buy EXCELL, AND GOT OPEN OFFICE INSTEAD. SOMEONE CLAIMS TO HAVE SENT ME AN OO MODEL WITH BELMONT IN IT, YET MANY ATTEMPTS ASKING FOR HELP WITH IT GONE UNANSWERED ,PM'S OF THANKS AND REQUEST FOR FUTHER HELP GO UNANSWERED, LOOK, DESPITE WHAT HAS BEEN SAID, EVEN WHEN THESE SAME MODELS ARE DONE AUTOMATICALLY IN OTHER SOFTWARE, I FELT THIS , RDSS, WAS AWESOME AND WOULD BE WHAT I NEEDED, AND TRUE MY WAGERING IS NOT UNDER CONTROL, I ADMIT THAT, NOTHING IS HIDDEN WITH ME , BUT i DO NOT LIE , BEG OR BORROW MONEY EVER, BUT WOULD ASK FOR ONE ON ONE TUTORING, DUE TO MY LEARNING DISABILITIES, THAT APPARENTLY NO ONE USING RDSS HAS, AND THEY MUST THINK i DO NOT EITHER, EVEN WHEN i'VE MENTIONED MY SLOWNESS A FEW TIMES, DESPITE HOW IT MAKES ME LOOK AND MAKES ME FEELS, I WAS HONEST AN ASKED , FORGIVE ME WHEN i WORKED 20 HR DAYS TO SURVIVE AND YET STILL FOUND TIME AND PLEASURE TRYING TO WIN WITH RDSS, AND HAVE FOUND MANY NUGGETTS USING RDSS, JUST LOOK AT THE POSTS, BUT THEY WERE TRACKS i ALWAYS PLAYED CHURCHILL, MONMOUTH, BELMONT/AQUEDUCT AND SANTA ANITA. Ask Richie who I asked for a little one on one help, and others I tried, and even with TED, who did respond and we talked on phone, and 1st time here did a few IM computer sessions thingies, yet for me learning from TED was hard, while his program is great, his teaching method to me was not compatable to me learning much, as he thought maybe I should already know this and that, and I am sorry I don't, like recording internet shortcuts, cause I did not know better. At least at HSH they were tough on me and yet they understood my slowness in learning and were as patient and Dave tried as hard as anyone ever has for me, yet we togehter felt after a little over a year that HSH may be too hard for me, too complex , too many working things to remember and very time consuming to set up and test this and that, and while I enjoyed it tremendously, it was tough to admit defeat, but I did, then rdss came to me, more simplistic, color-coded, 1 track at a time, not country wide , every track at once, but 1 race at a time, and cheaper too, and again so I thought nice people, who now pile on, fine do as you see fit. Sunady to me was a breakfast to work a card, rain or shine, I came with my computer to do a card, even suggested another track and we only ate and then we left, and with no card worked I did not go swimming at the track, why I had no card to cap and no plays to make, we didn't do any that morning we were going to, it was the reason me and Spence came out to Schulyerville that morning was to cap a card, yet I am reprimanded, sort of, for not going Sunday to the track, yet it was pouring rain, and miserable, and on top of it nothing was handicapped , so why go, Let me cool down, being accused of begging money got me madder than hell. patrick |

Oh yeah, suggesting the US government give some Bailout money to help my strugg;ing business, is not a request for money , it is a statement.
PA would not allow me to bum money on his site, you're WAY OUY OF LINE AND STRECHING HERE. [...edited...] This is a political statement, in no way did I expect to recieve any money from the government. I was showing how much it would take and what I could do with a small amount of money to help me survive, possibly in this economy, for which I did eventually succumb to. I think some people follow me to closely and take something posted as a political jab and twist it around are people we need to fear and not trust, so sad... Patrick I need to say no more and poat no more, this has gotten out of hand and is not beneficial to RDSS and continuing it is ridiculous, now if everyone give up on me fine, I'll move on, at least Dave did work with me one on one for over a year trying to get me to learn HSH, I been here a little less than that, as I had to take a forced hiatus, only Ted really tried to work one on one with, and I thanked him for it, but .... |

Patrick and Charles (clore1030),
I have taken the liberty of editing your recent posts regarding discussions occurring in PaceAdvantage Off Topic area. I feel the point has been made, rebutted, defended, etc and we can now move on. Please, no more discussion on that matter here. Patrick, you are welcomed to continue to attempt finding a mentor, or learning how to use RDSS, or any other software or methodology. Please do consider my suggestion (and others') that mental skills are way more important than any software skills or tools, or any given analysis or betting methodology. That was one of the main thrusts of that little seminar I gave in Saratoga. In whichever direction you head, I wish you good luck and godspeed! yours, Ted |
