For test / Philly VDC

1 Attachment(s)
Here is Philly race two from 12/8/09

This is another positive test result
with the VDC/segments 0-0 horse
this is just a test I'm betting real money but minimal amounts

Review steps
1. Val mode
2. best of the last 3 comperable pace lines
3. hide any horse not in the top 5 Total energy or Primary line score
4. of the top 5 TE PLS find on the segments screen the SC 0.0 horse
5 eliminate any horse one at a time starting with the worse finisher
from the VDC portion of the segments screen The little horse
icon that is finishing behind the 0.0 SC horse
6. hide to your confort level
mine is 3 horses

here is race 3 from 12/8 Philly park 7.0 furlongs

mikesal57 12-08-2009 05:48 PM

Hi Bill...

Your comfortable using a mile race for all sprints or just 7 furs?

mike

Bill V. 12-08-2009 07:34 PM

Yes

Hi Mike

yes at Philly i will take 8 and 8.3 lines for 6.5 and 7.0 races

noddub62 12-08-2009 09:08 PM

Bill question

"4. of the top 5 TE PLS find on the segments screen the 2F 0.0 horse
5 eliminate any horse one at a time starting with the worse finisher
from the VDC portion of the segments screen The little horse
i con that is finishing behind the 0.0 2F horse"

Bill, when you say 2F from the segments screen do you mean the F2 screen with the little horses? I'm a little confused and would like to paper some races with it to try it out. Help, help.

How is your new location? I'm happy for you and I hope that you will really enjoy it but be sure to keep a cool dude hat on and don't burn that shiny noggin! Let us know what's going on ther and good luck.:)

Thanks,
Bud

I made this new screen
I want to make sure people know what the test is
VAL MODE ONLY Spec 160 default users beware! Your results will be different as the
3rd panel in Spec mode is F3 Plus Total Pace
In Val Mode this readout is VDC

noddub62 12-09-2009 12:20 PM

Thanks Bill

raceman5 12-09-2009 03:25 PM

anyone testing bill's method at hollywood today. think i will give calder a shot tomorrow

Bill Lyster 12-09-2009 07:40 PM

Bill, so if the 0.0 horse on the 2f screen is the worst horse on the VDC screen to you eliminate the 0.0 horse?

Bill Lyster 12-09-2009 08:05 PM

Hollywood results using test instructions. Left in 0.0 horse when all others ahead on VDC screen, awaiting clarification from Billy V.

Race # Final 4 BL/BL Finish Odds

Hi Bill
Yes If the 0.0 horse is beaten by horses
you eleiminate the 0.0 horse Now you will have a new
0.0 horse Eliminate this way till you have your confort contender mix

Bill

Bill Lyster 12-09-2009 08:48 PM

Bill, note the result for race 6. The 0-0 horse was #1 Bl/Bl - might be a case for a good rule exception if it happens consistently.

Bill L.

Bill V. 12-09-2009 09:09 PM

I'm mixed up

Bill L.

Bill can you give my your contenders and lines used
I'm mixed up .. If the winner is the 0.0 horse # 1 on BLBL
it has to be top 3 VDC if not something is wierd

Bill Lyster 12-09-2009 09:55 PM

The lines I used

1 Attachment(s)
Me thinks I have resolution of issue. See the V/DC screen. The 7 is the 0.0 horse and appears to be last on the screen, but the V/DC rank is #1. I've seen this several times already in the few examples I've done, so it is important to note the V/DC rank instead of relying upon the apparent positioning of the light horse on the right hand side of the graph.

Bill V. 12-09-2009 11:07 PM

That is the rub

Bill what you show is the key thing that got me
to look at this phenomenom
If I can understand Ted ()
The little horse icons are the VDC rank
but if both the 1 and the 7 are # 1 VDC, why is 7 so far behind the 1 ?
and how can 6 and 9 be ahead ??
I saw this many times My idea is I figure something is wrong with the 7
so I started hiding these horses .

Anyway in the race you show the 7 is in the last position
NOT VDC rank Its Position is last. I would hide to three horses
and that would mean taking out the 7
The race for me would be between 1 6 and 9
and I believe the 6 won and the 9 placed

So to review I'm look at the little horse position
in the VDC panel not the VDC rank

Bill Lyster 12-09-2009 11:30 PM

The results

Sorry Bill, the finish was 7-9-6-1. It completed a chalky pick 3 for me and and a win bet. The BL was 7-1-9-6.

the 4 ran away with an easy win so ...

Bill V. 12-10-2009 12:18 AM

what I can not figure out is

Hey Bill

Notice how on your Segments screen it says
VDC and on my screen shots it says 3f + total pace
yet how we both are using Val mode

Ted Craven 12-10-2009 09:18 AM

Oops! The Segments screen column label in the 'central' Analysis Tab (i.e. the one accessed across the top row of tabs next to the 'Entries' Tab) shows F3+Total Pace. The label on the Analysis screen appearing as Panel 3 below each horse's PPs shows V/DC (in Val4 mode). Sorry for the inconsistency - I never noticed that!

If you show only the 2 horse panels and never the 3rd Analysis panel (and access Analysis from the top tabset) you'd never notice that. However, it's the same Val4 mode data on either.

As mentioned several times elsewhere, the V/DC rank consists of the better rank of the BL/BL rank or the actual underlying VDC formula rank. That's where ties come from. The positioning of the horse icon in the 3rd column on Segments (at the right edge) shows the relative magnitude of the actual VDC number, not the final VDC rank. That's how 2 horses with the same VDC rank can be in different positions.

Without commenting for the time being on what is being measured, Bill V is focusing on the VDC underlying number (not the rank, mixed with BL/BL) and contrasting it with the 'dream race' owner of the fastest 2nd call.

Fascinating research, guys!

Ted

Bill Lyster 12-10-2009 12:55 PM

The labels

When I first reconfigured to Val 4 mode and saved, I went back to the race and the F3 + Total Pace label was still there. I was afraid that the change in configuation hadn't taken place yet, so I quit the program and re-started. It took a couple of restarts before I got the V/DC label to show in the 3rd panel.

Even weirder, just a few mins. ago I opened yesterday's Hol 7th and went to the 7 horse. I had all three screen open and the label on the "Analysis-Segments" screen said F3+ Total for the 3rd panel and then, when I went to the Analysis-Segments screen all by itself, the label had the V/DC info.

Ted, I can't reproduce a screen shot of this, because it somehow toggled off on its own. I went back to the 7 horse and tried again, but by this time the V/DC label was where it should be in both views. Pretty strange.

Bill Lyster 12-10-2009 01:01 PM

And now its back. see the screen shots for the 7th and 8th races

4 Attachment(s)
I'm in Val 4 mode and V/DC shows on segments in bottom panel, but the Analysis-Segments solo page shows the title as F3 and total Pace. A minute ago, they both showed V/DC info, like the 7th race info

Happy hair pulling, Ted,

Bill V. 12-10-2009 02:56 PM

Thanks Bill

I'm so happy it was not me

Talk about being confused

I was seeing VDC on some races and 3f = total pace
the back I thought something was wrong and I had been sent to Spec mode

Bill V. 12-10-2009 03:05 PM

Nice line selection

Bill L.. Line 4 is better
thanks

Bill Lyster 12-10-2009 04:49 PM

I realize that line 4 is better, but my matchup (?) indicated Usurp burning up on the lead. The race actually ran a first fraction of 23+ (who coulda known..) and so Usurp waltzed easy. (my bad analysis)

Race 2

Hi Bob

I am only trying to show races were I actually bet
I worked race 2 but did not bet because 2 of my final 4
horses were turf horses. I passed the race,
If I had bet it I would have lost cause the 6 was a horse behind the
0.0 horse .

I'm trying to do as many races as i can but only races that I would bet
under normal conditions. Does that make sense.
