New member introduction
Hi all,
My name is Lawrence, and I'm writing to you all from here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. I've had a big interest in horseracing on turf for many years and I look forward to learning from everyone here on the forum. Cheers, Lawrence (or dlivery :)) |

Welcome Lawrence - writing you from beautiful Huntsville, Muskoka, Ontario (though earlier this afternoon, from beautiful Fort Erie racetrack, for the first time in about 45 years...).

Hi Ted
Lawrence here I am sort of lurking in the weeds here and it's got me thinking and being new to this sort of process have one question what is the best approach to start this long term process of learning rdss.and using the full advantage of this. Lawrence |
Morning Lawrence and welcome to P&C!

Hello again Lawrence and welcome. You've come to the right place.

anglemaster,
welcome. If the name is a reflection of the method being used in horse racing handicapping, I would like to ask your position in the importance of trainer intents as one of the main factors in analyze the upcoming race. Thanks |
AHA !!!

BuonGiorno Pino, it is me "John". As you know Trainer INtent is very important, would you agree with that???? How are you my friend.
|
Tim to bad I missed you. I take it you were down for POW day. I will be seeing Ms Blowe in a couple of weeks. My family still lives in the Fort Erie area, as does MS. Blowe.

Hello from Montana
Hello everyone! I am new to the forum. I have made a couple of posts in the "what to read" section. Anyway, I have been reading the suggested material; and am very impressed. I have also looked around the forum, reading some of the posts. It looks like I finally found what I'm looking for as far as beating the thoroughbreds is concerned. Best of luck to everyone!!:)
|
Welcome to the site Jeff! You will find a good group of folks here and some pretty sharp cappers too! :)

I've been a member for a few weeks and not only wanted to say hello, but say WOW...what a huge collection of information. I have never owned or used any handicapping software..still using pen and the drf. Maybe one of these days i will join the 'now' generation.
The only Sartin experience is in reading Modern Pace Handicapping and then reconfiguring ( roughly, not exactly ) it into the methods i grew up with. I guess you can say, like many, my handicapping methods have morphed over the years to include all of the good ideas i have read and practiced. I joined this forum to increase my knowledge and hopefully become an even better handicapper. If anyone is wondering, my forum name is from my mentor.. Lou Holloway...started with and still use his basic principles...and have always used his money management plan..only time it ever crapped out on me was when i used it playing blackjack. It wasnt the plans fault, it was my rotten blackjack playing :) |
Welcome to rdss
Hi
As to your pen and paper remark we have all used the drf at some time and I would say some still use for other uses. For myself my use of the drf is the security of using it as reference or security blanket when entering pace lines. For sure other members have their own use for the drf. I am still very new to this and fairly a regular weekend handicapper and from some of the higher ups in the methodology we are using these figures and slicing and dicing into finer measurements and I must say from the inner workings it sure works when you using the programe and following whats winning for you Nice to have you come on board it will be very interesting as you will see Dlivery |

Welcome to the neighbourhood and thanks for the intro! Money management seems to be a topic of some current interest here (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthr...newpost&t=7152). If you have anything you care to share about Lou Holloway's money management approach (or your take on it), feel free to share a few words (perhaps in that other Topic). Regardless, hope you find lots of new ideas here, and make some friends! cheers, Ted |
Thank you for the welcome...and i will try to add anything helpful that i can in the money management thread.

New and hungry for direction
Been wondering around for a couple years, hope I have found a true home for real learning. I noticed there is a ton of information here as far as the manuals are concerned. I need a little help about which information I need to be reading and in what order.
Thanks Melvin |
Welcome Melvin.
I would read Followups from #70 on to start and listen to the audios and visuals in the library and if you are interested in using RDSS go to that site and look at the videos and seminars. That should keep you busy for a while. Ask any questions you have and I'm sure someone will be able to answer them in detail. Barb |

Thanks. Are there anywhere on the site that shows the handicapping techniques shown in the book The Match Up 2, or is there anyone who can explain it to me? I see that the book is not available. Thanks Again |

Indeed there is information on the Match Up 2 techniques. There is an entire Forum devoted to that - The Hat Check Forum (The Match Up): http://paceandcap.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=35 There is another Forum (Matchers) where folks who are expert practitioners in that approach discuss things and can answer your questions: http://paceandcap.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=66 Good luck, best wishes! New(ish) Member
Hello all,
One or two of you may remember my name as a member, although probably not as I didn't really post too much. After joining I got sidetracked somewhat by other issues, but I've now decided to commit myself fully to learning the Sartin Methodology & The Match Up. I've read the POW manual on more than one occasion already. I'm now going to start with the Yellow Manual. As an Englishman hopefully I may seek clarification on terminology used and also seek clarification on issues within the body of work should I be confused. I shall of course ask all of my questions in the adult ego state & if not maybe anyone considering a reply might ask me to rephase. I'm aware that there are some programs available, but I was thinking in terms of doing my own thing in excel. My aim is to get as close a feel for the data as possible, until I am one with the methodology. I'm in a position where I have the time to dedicate to studying the methodology and setting up spreadsheets & with the economy the way it is, it's a good job too! Anyway, I've probably gone on too long now, but shall be back to discuss the methodology asap. Thanks. |

Thank you Bill.
It is really refreshing to see the way this forum supports each other. |
Having again re-read POW and working through the Yellow Manual as we speak I'm struck by two things.
Firstly, I'm going to forget about developing my own spreadsheets, certainly for the time being. RDSS seems quite reasonably priced and I shall progress to the trial version when the time is right. Secondly, the Yellow Manual, basic phase III I've heard it referred to on one of the audios. Basic??!! I've been reading it thinking that things sound reasonable etc. Then going back through to make notes I'm finding I can hardly miss anything out. Every sentence has meaning. It is forcing me to go over the same stuff repeatedly, but this is good. Anyway, to the point of this post. As this is the new member intro thread, is there actually a thread where people discuss issues relating to the learning of the methodology or should I just start a thread & ask questions as I go along? I don't have any as yet, but I'm sure I will have at some point. Thanks. |
Dave,
This is a good section of the Forum (the Welcome to the Sartin Methodology forum) to start a new thread for any specific question you have pertaining to the Methodology as a whole. If you have questions about specific approaches or specific software, such as The Matchup or RDSS, there are Forums devoted to those areas and you can ask questions pertaining to those there. If you have betting psychology or money management questions, just fire away. It's pretty casual though, so please do ask any and all of your questions somewhere! If the question needs to get re-filed elsewhere, not to worry. The answers and your learning process will most likely benefit many others as well. The important thing, after a certain point, is to just jump in and do it - work a race, by one means or another! Win or lose, the process of coming to a decision about how, or whether, to exploit your analysis of a race, or a series of races, becomes the most valuable feedback you can get about how to master this game. The journey of a thousand miles begins with ... Looking forward to your eventual success! yours, Ted |
Thank you very much Ted.
I'm genuinely excited about using the Methodology. And will be back as soon as I have a question. Thanks |

I've read the Yellow Manual cover to cover today & am now planning to read Dynamics, Chaos & 70 - 88 of the Follow Up.
As far as the Yellow manual goes, whilst I appreciate that part of the approach has been updated, do PaceandCap members think that I ought to be reading this and the other manuals noted above as general background before learning thoroughly the issues discussed in the latter issues of the Follow Up or that I ought to also be thoroughly learning the contents of the earlier published manuals? I'd just like to point out that I'm not looking to take any shortcuts and if learning everything is the optimum way to go then I'll happily proceed in that manner. Thanks. |

As a new reader of the Yellow Manual my initial thoughts were that it was rather light on worked examples. Perhaps this was The Doc's intention. Everything that I read made sense though, I didn't feel myself questioning anything. Again, this was very probably his intention when putting the information together.
Also as an English reader I'm perhaps fortunate that I don't have to get rid of any preconceived ideas about what it takes to win betting on American Racing. I'm more of a blank canvas than most. Before I go back to the Yellow Manual I'm going to read through the Dynamics manual, starting right now. |
sorry Benzer, that was in response to your posting. thanks

Greetings. Am a new member, but old Sartin client from the "good ole days".
Look forward to chatting with you folks. I have, right off the bat, 2 questions. 1. Is there a site, on the web, you prefer for watching the races on your PC ? 2. Howard used to have a lot of the betting/money management bundled into some programs for a hand held computer. Is there any sort of on-line version of that available ? Thanks |
Hi Dorianmode, and welcome (back) to the Methodology!
You asked about bet construction tools: here is a thread from last with some references: http://paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6687 A lot of people regularly use the exotic wager calculator tool (just remembered that!) Online ADW's (Advance Deposit Wagering) such as TwinSpires, Bet America, Premier Turf Club, Xpressbet and others offer video. I use a good rebate shop with video of most tracks. Depends on which one suits you (and where you reside). If you like Woodbine, they broadcast their races free each racing day: www.woodbineentertainment.com/Woodbine/Racing/Pages/LiveRacing.aspx BTW, a handy way to Google Search for things on Paceandcap.com is to use the 'site search' facility. Type this in Google: site:paceandcap.com exotic wager calculator. Or any other search term, constrained to this website. All the best! Ted |
