AQU December 12

Here's the kind of race I don't like, it is a 10K claimer. That's bottom of the barrel in NYC and here we have a favorite that the barn has obviously given up on, but the public is giving one more chance. But at 5/2 presently, that support seems half-hearted.

If I toss out the 9, I get nice figs on the 4, who does have good mud form but also is a suspicious drop. The 7 looks viable, but this one too is scraping the bottom.

I'll just make a token wager on the 4, this isn't a heat that inspires any more than an action bet, and frankly, after doing the first seven races, the whole card looks dismal.

Way to go: BETWEEN US we had the super

Tim Y 12-12-2008 12:40 PM

2nd second call maidens, :4: :5:, or a firster but no odds on the FOUR but this one with the rest of the field's odds is perfect for an exotic "riding the coat tails" bet. If this one should trip and come in THIRD or meet a monster...the TRI would be huge even with the big public choice anchoring the wager to logic.

I had the 4 and 7 in my top two EP ratings, I just picked the wrong one. I did have the 6 on top in BL/BL, only narrowly over the 7.

For the 7 though, I went back six races to get a pace line, and second guessed myself by preferring the recent activity of the 4.

I'm just watching this one. The maiden races today are chock full of firsters, so I'll probably pass all of them.

Just playing my top two EP horses in each of the first two could have netted an easy $140 double.

I almost did play the second, but a call from the ex caused me to lose track of time.

I've got the 6 and the 1A looking to be up front in the third and they're 7 and 8/1 right now. This looks like a good race to split my wager.

Do me a favor as I need substantiation of a fact that I have long held but have not proved. PHILLY Lines come into New York looking unbeatable all the time and they crash and burn. See if you can find that same thing please?

Oh, i agree without even looking up any notes. A couple of weeks ago I made that comment when I had a horse in the feature that day that I could not accept because of his originating track. I was wrong on that occasion, but in the long run, such hesitance is rewarded.

I have similar problems with Monmouth, where even cheap horses cut 44 and change half-miles that are never equaled here on the NYC circuit.

In the case of today's third though, I will take a chance on the shipper.

Agreed

The thing about this track and Fort Erie is that you have to suspend all other logic other than who projects to be VERY close at that second call and forget the rest

that is the thing about that track as this race showed: earlies get some sort of BOOST there that once established does not often get overcome...LIKE HERE

The SPLITZACTA again

It's just a matter of knowing when. The last line on the 6 wasn't too out of whack with its 47+ half and 112+ 6F times.

Ooops, jockey's objection. But they rarely stand up to scrutiny.

Tim Y 12-12-2008 01:32 PM

The four was coming in as much as the six was coming out but I think we are screwed

Bob Hope was our good luck charm here. Last night I woke up and couldn't fall back, so I put on TCM and they were playing a Bob Hope film about a young miss (as in an infant) abandoned at the United Nations. :)

clore1030 12-12-2008 01:42 PM

In the fourth, I have the 9 miles ahead of the rest after 4F. trouble is that there are way too many first timers in here for me to take the small odds.

That reminds me of the Thin Man movie where William Powell is reading to his kid from the Racing Form.

Filmed at a THEN, brand new Golden Gate Fields

I love Myrna Loy. If she had met me first, she wouldn't have been married four times. I love Alice Faye too and actually got to meet her in San Francisco.

I'm tempted as I have the same two contenders, but my nature is that after a score, I get more conservative in my play.

Maybe a single bet on the 9 though, I still have 5 minutes.

That is one of the things my betting coach pooh poohs: "all your bets are mutually exclusive"

Funny you mention Alice Faye. I saw a bit of "In Old Chicago" on HBO this morning, but sleep finally overcame me. No reflection on the film, I've seen it many times and like it.

Myrna Loy is my favorite actress next to Gene Tierney.

Hawkeye Peirce " I love that sexy overbite on Laura." Poor woman had many demons and wound up in mental hospitals with age. Dumb twit of a friend of hers exposed her and her unborn to measles as I recall and caused significant birth defects.

I love Hello Frisco Hello but never let a San Franciscan here you say that shortened word or they will bite your head off!

I can agree to a point. Were we dealing with PPs for all in this last one, I'd have no problem, in fact, I'd probably get more aggressive in looking for a price.

I look at it this way - my "known" is that I just had increased my bankroll. The race didn't offer enough for me to take the risk against too many unknowns. Since I didn't make a wager, my next bet will still be mutually (or is that "mutuelly" :)) exclusive since there was no bet on the fourth.

Tim Y 12-12-2008 02:11 PM

started to like the :8: until I saw a major regression the last three

Tierney revealed that about her being exposed to whatever the virus was in her autobiography, and the producers incorporated that in THE MIRROR CRACK'D as the reason for the murder within the film.

got to admit she was a beautiful woman and very good actress: could play a psychopath too in Leave Her to Heaven

For the fifth, I'll dump the 8 and go with the 5 and a longshot in the 3.

I took the chance on the 3 as it was my top BL/BL horse with estimated odds of 9/5 versus a 15/1 ML. It struck me that this was worth a shot despite my preference towards being no more than four lengths behind turning for home on this oval. Besides, I had the 5 as insurance and honestly thought that was the one that would pay off.

clore1030 12-12-2008 02:42 PM

The sixth is a no brainer for me - stay out of it. 7 and 9 and the rest are unknown or unworthy.

clore1030 12-12-2008 03:00 PM

Seventh race

Tight fit on BL/Bl with the 6-5-4 in that order.
6 and 4 look to be up front and as they are between 4 and 5/1, I'll play both.

Back to movies - just read that Van Johnson died earlier today at 92.

Joy Page, Anita Page and Betty Page have all passed away this year.

Joy may not be a familiar name, but she was the young woman in CASABLANCA for whom Bogie rigged the roulette table so she would not have to "surrender" to Claude Rains.

My hesitation on the 2 was its best efforts appeared to be poly races, but poly-to-IDT is something I've got to do some research on.
