Thoromation

Does anyone know why they didnt make the program to adjust itself? It seems like the 2 adjustment caused a lot of confusion.Jeff

Slewbacca 04-03-2007 08:16 AM

Here is a trick for Thoromation. If you adjust the POR with par times(not POH) for the pacelines you chose and then use the 1 adjust, Thoromation is just deadly. The reason I got away from this approach was that it was time consuming. Because RDSS is supposed to save the RAC files adjusted, I may dig out my copy of
Thoromation.

Final Four

That is going to be great to be able to send the top 4
BL BL into Thoromation

Slew, would it be possible to go into more detail on this procedure. I have always thought by doing this you would in fact be dealing with 2 adustments which I thought would be counter-productive. Not having done this though I cannot say for sure. Your post indicates it works very well for you. Also was wondering what pars you were using for this process? Thanks for any information on this.

Bill, I hate to be contradictory but:
Please enlighten me. When the saving feature is added to RDSS will this be part of Validator 2006, which I was led to believe, but could be mistaken, will be included as a segment of RDSS. If not, then why not?

Will Validator 2006 be available for public consumption? If not, why not?

The fact that RDSS will save the best 4 is admirable but It can also be converted through AOdds Gold or SpeedPlus (cost of the files $ 1.00 on the silver plan) and Axlate, if use use Trackmaster files and the cost of the files, $1.00 (pay as you go) are less expensive and can achieve the same results.

Slew,I second the motion by Houndog,I guess Horse Street Pars would be the best.Jeff

When I was using T-Mation, I printed out a copy of Beyer's speed charts and used it to find out his race variant for each pace line and adjsuted the POR by that number. The assumption was that is the Beyers equalized the races, then the track-to-track and daily variants and anything else was already in the variant number. I had very good results doing that, but as you can imaginge, it is time consuming to do that every race.

Hi Bill With all respect all your questions and opinions about RDSS and the availability of Val2006 should be adressed to Ted in the RDSS section

I hope everybody at some point gets the program that makes them winners
in the pocket and in life

What I did was use synergism 3 and run the pace of the race thru the pacelines to get the adjusted pace of the race. I would then put that in as the POR for the horse keeping the beaten lengths that were in the form. Betting the top 2 was deadly for me with me hitting over 80% at Keeneland during the 2 weeks I was there. The problems were that this approach took aprox 45 min per race to run. The pars changed over time and I didn't have a new par table to chage the pars. The advantage of this approach was that using pars to adjust the speed of the track, when I put in a slow horse the 1 adjust would throw the horse out. With just using the 2 adjust, I would often have the slow horse come out on top. My problem was I had trouble telling if the horse was slow or was he coming from a slow track. Maybe Ted can let us know if his RDSS adjusted pacelines will give us a relatively close approximation.

Slewbacca,Let me get this straight. After entering the pacelines into Syn 3 you would then take those times and put those into Thoromation with the beaten lengths from the form.Maybe Im wrong but doesnt Syn 3 have 3 calls and Thoromation 4.Thanks Jeff

Slewbacca 04-04-2007 08:29 AM

It has been a long time since I done this and synergism 3 may be only 3 calls. I used to have to extrapolate a stretch call. For example, a 6 furlong race with fractions of 47 and 1:11, I would extrapolate a stretch fraction of 59.0. Other distances took a little more math. Hope this helps.

Houndog 04-04-2007 09:41 AM

Stretch Call

Slew, thanks for the explanation. I can see that this would be a time consuming process. As far as the stretch call it may not be too critical as far as the accuracy, because I am not sure if the stretch call is used all that much (or at all) in the THOROMATION 4 call program.

As far as par times I agree with Jeff (shoeless) that Horsestreet has good reliable pars. I am just waiting for the new Horsestreet pars to come out which has been delayed. Dave Schwartz is a busy man as he is also doing alot of work with HSH.

shoeless 04-04-2007 04:09 PM

Could you just enter 0 in the stretch call?

Slewbacca 04-04-2007 10:14 PM

I don't think so. It's been awhile.

Partsnut,

As discussed several times elsewhere, Val2006 is not a commercial software - it is only an experiment I did to prove to myself that I understood how to repair the formulae 'broken' by the 2006 data changes by Equibase/TrackMaster and to show to Doc to get his opinions and to prove that his 'baby' was not orphaned. I have no rights to Validator and thus cannot circulate it. I am busy making RDSS produce the same output as Validator (Val2006), for those who might wish that compatibility.

Also, you have helped me with older Sartin software file structures and I thank you for that help. As soon as I can, I will provide for export to (at least) the 4 call format for Thoromation and EXDC from the RDSS Original or Adjusted screens, i.e. distance equalized (or not), including ITV and DTV (or not), employing Validator variable beaten lengths (or not).

Indeed, as you point out, other software already does this today and best wishes to those profiting by whatever tools and personal proficiency!

Ted

I'd sure like to see that experiment (i.e. comparing Thoromation against Val/Spec/RDSS). It's been many years since I picked up Thoromation. In the long run, with RDSS you should be able to tinker with adjustments to your heart's content (or until you hang yourself). Doc undoubtedly thought highly of the adjustment scheme in Validator and I presume in the pars/variants behind TrackMaster data, so when you adjust the POR by these means, I'd like to think that they're as good as any other adjusted numbers for the purpose of exporting to T'mation, or as 'socantra' puts it, perhaps good-enough to win with.

Slewbacca, I nominate you as chief tester for that experiment:).

I thought the RDSS stuff was just supposed to be in that section of the website that was designated for it.I feel like Im in a movie theatre that's running commercials.Sorry Binder if Im out of line with this but that's the way I feel about it.Jeff

Ted was just responding to questions asked and points raised by 40% of the posters on this thread. Didn't look like a commercial to me.

Dick,I asked Bill to start this section for older sartin programs I dont think RDSS is one.Even in an earlier post here Bill asked all RDSS questions should be done on that part of the website.Jeff

Okay with me. Since I'm not using an older Sartin program, I'll try not to intrude.

two thoro

thoromation came in two flavors. the first asked for three points of call and four positional calls; the second came with four by four.
