Forecast,Nice job on that Im glad to see some Energy users still out there.Did you ever use Entropy to get your contenders?Jeff

Hi Jeff,

No, I went in another direction around 1992, and have recently circled back to Energy and the Methodology. I find that using the Match-up gets me the true contenders and, if I have more than one or two, I'll enter them into Energy. My results to date have been exceptional. Using Energy this way is like having the Hat handicap every race for me. I recommend it highly.

All the best,

Thanks for Screenshots

Forecast, really like your screenshots for the sprint, distaff, and classic. I ran the distaff and sprint through THOROMATION (similar to ENERGY) and I pretty much came up with the same horses as you did.

I did not run the Classic or the FM turf through THOROMATION and I really don't need to after looking at your readouts. You are very true in applying Jim Bradshaw's match-up principles to ENERGY. ENERGY when properly used may be the closest you can get to having Jim Bradshaw's match-up in a computer program.

Forecast,Actually I have started to do it like you described as Richie has been helping me with the match up.After getting my contenders Im using Energy as well ,I dont feel that Im good enough to be able to seperate them.Anything you can share on using Energy I would like to see it.Jeff

Hi Jeff,

It has been my experience that when you put in the contenders and pacelines generated by the match-up, most times you can go to the Paragon that is favored by the Variegate (example: Variegate = Early, bet your top two from Paragon A). The better you get at matching horses, the more predictive your Energy program will become.

If you're having difficulties learning the match-up, perhaps you may want to try using another program to generate the match-up pacelines and contenders. I have no experience with this method, but have read some interesting posts about Aodds, Speed+, and Kgen being used for this purpose.

If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. IT looks like you've got a great team around you, with Richie and Houndog.

All the best on the "Big" day.

Hi Houndog,

Thanks for your reply. It's reassuring to know that you came up with the same horses/readouts as I did. I feel that, regardless of the results tomorrow, we will be wagering on the "right" horses, based on our methods and the tools at our disposal. Best of luck tomorrow.

Forecast,Thanks I appreciate the advice. For me Im getting the contenders using the match up but not doing well seperating them once I narrow the field down. That's the reason I believe for now I need to use a computer program as a tool to help me.Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I've read a few posts here about Energy users using Aodds98 to do the matchup and find contenders and pacelines. Have you tried that, and if so, please tell me what you think. Thanks in advance.

AOdds98 is an excellent contender selection program, Intially. It's automatic paceline selector is fairly accurate and it literally tells you which screen is the most predictive if you have the modeler module.

When Entropy was initially introduced, it was touted to be the closest software to emulate the Match-Up. This is my program of choice.
I use this with AOdds.
Here is where I narrow down my contenders and ascertain the valence of the race. As was mentioned, the Valence is a helpful but not an infallible predictor. It is imperative to study and learn to interpret the read-outs.
Entropy can be used successfully as a stand alone program.
As you will notice, these are both Bradshaw endorsed programs.
In my opinion, they are the two strongest pieces of software ever written.

As with any piece of software, pacelines and contender selection is critical.

Hi Partsnut,

Thanks for your post on Aodds and Entropy. I am currently using Energy and the match-up, and am doing quite well (except for Breeder's Cup day - threw out Thor's Echo in the sprint, #2 on printout :( ). I would like to try Aodds as a companion program to Energy; I find that some races are very difficult to match by "eye-ball" scan as the Hat does, and I feel that with some degree of automation the match-up could be a bit less tiring mentally and a bit more structured. If I can get a hold of a copy and can formulate a step-by-step process in matching with it, I will post my findings here. Perhaps we can compare notes one day.

All the best,
