Energy vs Thoromation
I have been reading the FU'S and currently Im on issue 28 that deals with Thoromation.I wanted to know what is the difference between the two programs.Jeff
|
Jeff, from what I can see Energy was originally a stand alone program.
Thoromation is a package of programs which includes Energy, KGEN, EXDC etc. One of the big differences was the pre-play screens and the Thoromation screen in EXDC. Also, with Thoromation you could put in more contenders without getting a skewed result. Originally, Energy worked best with the recommended four contenders, |
Bill,Thanks Jeff

Thoromation makes much more use of graphics. The numerical readouts are very similar and exactly the same in many cases. It is much easier to do project horses and manually adjust horses in Thoromation then it is in Energy, which may not be necessarily a good thing.
The later versions of Thoromation allowed for 12 entries, which if done will cloud your readouts just as much as entering too many horses in Energy. In certain areas higher numbers are better in Thoromation (100's) where in Energy (0.00) is better. They essentially are the same numbers. The one thing I like about the newer version of Thoromation is the Data Entry screen where you see all the horses as you enter them, rather then one at a time such as in the version of Energy I am using. This makes it easier to catch and correct data entry errors. |
Houndog,Thanks for your post Jeff

Entropy
Thank you houndog
Yes the lines are easier to enter than on Energy |
Houndog,Anytime you want to post something you did with Energy or Thoromation I still would be interested in learning how to be able to use the programs better.Jeff

Mike,Do you ever look at the pace of the race, pace of the horse section on Thoromation with EXDC?Bradshaw on a tape said using that program is how he learned the matchup.Jeff

Jeff, I have not looked at that section much in Thoromation, but it does sound like a good idea for learning the Match-Up. I really like Richie's postings in the "Hat" area and this is an area I need to work more at. It seems to me the more we know about the Match-Up the more proficient we will become in using any of the programs we decide to use whether that is Speculator, Energy, Validator, etc. I think learning the Match-Up is so important as it enables you to select the proper pacelines and contenders. It is great to be able to get your win contenders down to 3 or 4 horses, and in some cases less than that. When you do this these programs are very accurate. |
I was under the impression that Thoromation was one of Dr. Sartin's favorites.

i thought
the principle difference between these programs is the dependence upon deceleration for its fundamental model by the latter, and energies varigated by the match-up in the former. energy, i believe, was the big move away from velocity, although it performed much as did its predecessor, synergismII (the finest velocity program i have ever used, by far), by creating an internal variant and equalizing the horses to it, but using energy percentages to determine that variant.
kgen followed energy, and based its numbers on an hypothetically derived deceleration. this derivation, i mildly surmise, was related to the energy model, but employed formulae for deceleration not found in the latter. kgen and thoromation and entropy are, what?, the fifth stage in the evolution of handicapping? and require an effort on the part of the handicapper to redefine his understanding of a horse-race. actually, the match-up is the analytical father of this stage of the sartin programmatic, because, as the Hat defines it, you're forced to adjust the energy depletions of the various principals without an "objective" number to base it on. in some sense, thoromation is what happens when you write a program that uses UXR as its foundation. i do not believe you will ever use these programs effectively if you fail to predicate your use of them on the deceleration concept. tlt |
Thief,
you seems to be right in your analysis. Pirco was a business enterprise, and as such the need to develop new products had to be continuosly mantained, in order to raise interest in this tough business. Started as velocity concept it evolved, as you mentioned, to a deceleration one. Energy, Kgen, Entropy, Thoro all make use of deceleration concept. I'm a Syn buff, and I agree with your statement that there isn't better software for velocity handicapping. I have use them all, including Val and Spec, but I'm still going back to the one that I understand , and that is SYN. Handicapping, for me is to process informations in an orderly manner, same way all the time, and most of all, a need for an intuitive approach is a must. We can use any of Sartin's programs, but if we are not able to choose the right paceline, they will not optimally perform as well. I can go on, but is late. Pino |

so I would think that the it was Doc's first thoughts that
In Energy The energizer the muv horse and Paragon A readouts were getting the lower odds winners while the longer price horses were coming from the ones that ran in a way that the KGEN readouts were showing. That is more even deceration. I never understood the Kgen and fractals readouts till I did some races with thoromation To really make the programs after Energy effective the chaos math did the trick. Energy was the key that took the methodolgy away from the copycats Bill |
