Del Mar Meetup - Aug 27

Just booked a room for 2 weeks at 'Casa Lyster' from August 20 - 31 ~ish. So, I'll be attending Del Mar racing live for several days (not sure about Pacific Classic day 8/20 ).

It would be great to have another PaceandCap get together day - we always have a great time! Perhaps the weekend of Aug 27/28?

If anyone is planning on attending, let's schedule something! Despite the hubbub, I managed to make money the past 2 times.

Cheers,

Ted

Hello there Ted: I will be at Del Mar for the closing three day weekend September 3rd thru September 5th. Maybe one of these days we can meet up at Santa Anita or Del Mar. For the record this has been an annual get-away for me each year for the past 10 years.

So Cal Al 07-19-2016 08:10 PM

Ted: I'm going with a group on a bus from the Palm Springs area on Aug. 24th. I will have a table in the Clubhouse Terrace area. I can give you exact details later. I hope we can meet. Last year, I had a great day....even had the bus waiting for me because I had to do an IRS sign up for a big last race trifecta. Hope to do even better this next time. Using Rdss2 together with some trainer/jockey info for the maiden races. Good skill !

Ted Craven 07-19-2016 10:38 PM

Al, looks like I'll have to come over to Del Mar on the 24th as well! It'll be great to see you again. Just let me know closer to the date what's what.

Looking forward to the trip!

Take care,

Ted

Dap, looks like I might miss meeting you this year - I'm leaving before the Labour Day weekend, but maybe some year at Canterbury - there's tons of folks in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area

Anyway. I do wish you a great time there. It is a GREAT track.

Chef, looks like we're settling in on Saturday August 27 for as many people as possible to get together at that same area we did in 2013 (http://paceandcap.com/forums/showpos...09&postcount=5). Ground floor, far end nearest the parking lots. Once I get there the week before, I'll scope out the area to make sure it's still available and suitable, as it was in 2013. I'll post more info here.

If you must be there a different day, let's see if we can get together. Just check in by email or PM, and I'll give my mobile # so we can be in touch.

If anyone else is planning on coming, feel free to check in here.

Looking forward to seeing old faces and meeting new friends!

Del Mar is nice but can be HOT. Much easier to get there nowadays. We used to drive in from Orange County and it would take quite awhile to get there since the freeway was not finished as it went right through the big Marine Corps base at Camp Pendleton.

I can recall seeing the great Cougar II's very first North American start there as he was brought up from South America by Joe Hernandez the long time announcer at Santa Anita. He NEVER paid as much as he did for that day's win as no one knew about him yet.

I learned a trick way back then: IF Shoe stayed for his mount in the final race of the day: BET IT.

You get serenaded (TWICE) by Bing singing "Where the turf meets the surf." Used to play his old 40's version before the first race, and an updated 70's version before the final contest on the card. Bing used to have a radio show there every weekend and he would greet hundreds at the gate while he was on the air. Del Mar was a cooperative effort of Bing, Jimmy Durante and Pat O'Brien.

For years Southern Pacific used to run a special train daily that they called "The Gamblers Special" out of LA. Always wanted to take that but never did and now it is gone.

Seabiscuit ran one of his lesser known match races there in 1938 against Ligaroti. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcnawQ7DFaE

Riders in that match got into such a battle late, that both were suspended months in a non-betting race.

Turf course in much like a golf putting green (very short grass) that allows many a wire job.

Looking forward to the PaceandCap Meeting this coming Saturday August 27! I'll plan to be there by at least 11am so I can grab some tables in the area we usually meet - same place as previous years, for those who've been before.

To get there, enter the track, stay on the ground floor and cross over to the Club house side - across the horse path near the saddling enclosure (cost $4). Go to the far end of the building, ground floor, club house side. You will see a group of long tables and round tables at the very end, hopefully with some smiling faces and computers. There are self-serve betting terminals nearby, some (high-priced) food kiosks and direct access to rail-side just past the finish line. If you bring a computer, there are some power outlets, though an extension cord and splitter plug may help. I am not sure about wireless internet at Del Mar. Bring your own if you can. I have a wireless hotspot on my phone.

Here are a few photos of what to look for.

Hoping to have lunch with Bill V on Friday in Cardiff-by-the-Sea - it's been a while Bill! And looking forward to a great day at the races!

If anyone needs my mobile phone number for contact - just send me a PM or email.

Ted

Bill Lyster 08-25-2016 09:55 AM

Ted, I think you can also access the meet up area by entering the Clubhouse entrance. The cost is the same, but you pay the $ as part of the entrance fee and then save several hundred yards of walking, for those that are not great walking fans.

Of course you miss some of the wonderful ladies in their outfits by cutting short your walk, but then there are so many.....

Ted Craven 08-25-2016 01:17 PM

Of course! Whatever way you enter the Clubhouse side, go there, head to the far end, track side, look for the tables. Don't ignore the beautiful humans and horses on the way :)

We'll miss you there this year.

Ted

So Cal Al 08-25-2016 01:22 PM

Ted,
Sorry I missed you guys yesterday at DMR. Al B.

Ted Craven 08-25-2016 01:33 PM

Oh dear - was it yesterday you were there? Sorry I spaced that out. I didn't get to the track yesterday after all. I hope you had an enjoyable and profitable day.

Take care,

Ted

Our meetup space UNAVAILABLE today - alternatives ...?

Saturday morning! Alas a major glitch in our plans - Bill V is there and it turns out that area we planned to meet with tables and power is UNAVAILABLE today. It is the staging area of a big giveaway.

Right now 9:15am PT, Bill is looking for something else, maybe simply a table in a restaurant. Stay tuned here, if you are planning on being there but have not been in contact with me.

TOMORROW - Bill, me and Paul (sureshotlink) WILL return to the track to that same area - anyone who could not (or does not want to) make it today, join us tomorrow.

If anyone wants to check in, call me or send a text on 705 788-4386. I'll be at the track by ~10.30 am

Ted

Ted Craven 08-27-2016 03:21 PM

Got a nice spot here on 5th floor, anyone coming - room for 1 more today. Just text or call me.

Stay tuned for plans for tomorrow ...

Thanks to Paul L (sureshotlink) and his tournament connections, we got a very nice table in the VIP room and were treated VERY nicely by all the staff. Sometimes (well, often) things just work out ... I can get used to that room.

It turned out to be just the 3 of us, Bill V, Paul L and myself. It made for stimulating conversation - about horse acing and life in general - and a few nice bets (and several others that got away ...).

Bill and I returned again on Sunday for another nice day, and conversations on how things have evolved over the years at P&C.

I guess it technically requires at least 2 people to be called a 'meeting' ...

Thank you to Ted and Paul
We had a great weekend Saturday we missed some nice horses
because we we having such a time but Paul and Ted hit some nice winners
Paul had a nice winner that knocked me ot of my pick 5 in the last leg
but I was so happy for him. He really works hard and LOVES Doc and the methodology :)

Ted and I came back on Sunday and had Pace and Cap founders day
Sunday was much more down to work, and serious betting, for us both.
I hit a string of rolling doubles, Noting great but i made a nice profit,
Enough so I had plenty of ammo for the late pick 4

Ted booked my bet because he gets a fantastic rebate
My ticket cost $79

my numbers were
race 7 --- 3 8 10 11
race 8 --- 7 5 3 8
race 9 ---- 1 9 4 3
race 10 --- 3 7 6 2

The results was great! I made several combinations of these numbers and
Ted emailed me with the great new

Attachment 41325

Here are my screens
Race 7 had 7 FTS I actually had the winner and place horse #11 at 50/1
in my mix
I can't get into how I used the work out patterns for FTS yet because I still want to test it for many more races but it worked here in race 7

For Race 8, 9 and 10 , After i picked my lines I used the new RX
screen I focused on RX 3 which includes the profit line number from Twin-spires
I have a twin spires betting account so tying RDSS2.1 to Twinspires is just a mouse click away

Here are my screens

CONGRATS

Latekick 08-29-2016 11:24 PM

Bill, Congrats! I am curious to know do you always play your pick 4's like this, going 4 deep in all legs? I know some people who are successful at using that method and striking at a much higher percentage. So i am just curious to know if you always play your pick 4's this way

dogkatcher 08-30-2016 12:01 AM

$79 for a 4 horse pick 4 even at $.50 = $128, that's some discount, but congratulations on a great hit.

sureshotlink 08-30-2016 12:56 AM

It was a real pleasure hanging out with Bill and ted talking shop and betting del mar and Saratoga races. Although we talked right thru the Woodford reserve missing strike charmer it was still all good!...:D

It truly was a Bill and Ted's excellent adventure!

Until we meet again,

Continued Success,

Paul Link

Bill V. 08-30-2016 06:40 AM

no cave

Thank Late kick Shoelesss and dogkatcher

Late and Dogkatcher,
My contenders were 4 horses each leg
but I did not go 4 x 4 x 4 x 4

I often go partners with some very good players in pick 4's and the Pick 5
here at Delmar. They bet more combinations in some races and single or have only 2 horses in at least 1 leg.

I am really just a voice as far as contenders go I never actually have a say in the makeup of the ticket but they give me a breakdown of the numbers.
I see the tickets usually cost $80 - $90.

Sunday I was up in the VIP area with just Ted. I had about $80 to invest after hitting some doubles at Del Mar and Saratoga.

I put together some combinations and Ted put the bets in for me onto his betting service cause he makes a nice rebate,

I only bet with cash when I am actually at Del Mar
so I would not have got a rebate.

Anyway I wrote a bunch of .50 cent various combos down on a piece of paper, Ted put my bets in. I stopped at $80

At dinner later I told Ted I don't think I won because I was not sure I had bet
Bejarano on the # 3 in race 9
I know I had the 3 in race 10, It was not till yesterday when I was looking
at the readouts, I called Ted and asked if I had made a combo of 10 8 3 3
He wrote back and yes I did .

Yea

Bill V.

Latekick 08-30-2016 10:33 AM

Okay i see. I was just curious if you constructed all of your tickets like that. What a way to lose/win! One day you think you were so close to hitting it and it just didn't get there, and the next day your sitting on an extra $600! Good stuff.

dogkatcher 08-30-2016 11:04 AM

Thanks for the explanation Bill, I thought maybe common core math had evolved at the track. I can still keep my Exotic Wager Calculator for future reference.

Enjoy the loot, and multiply it.
