velocity is about 60% of it, position 40%

Gary,I know your a modest person and I hope you dont mind doing this. Can you please post the screen shots and explain how you came up with that 70-1 shot that ran 2nd last week at EVD.I think it would be beneficial to a lot of people.Jeff

shoe, I like %medium better because the ranges are a tighter fit between high and low. Also for myself %medium is what I am used to looking at with the Energy programs.

Others can surely help here. I don't have Doc's official definition available now, but to me it is a representation on how a horse expends it's energy at a given point in the race. %early and %median although calculated differently can be used for the same thing. The highest or lowest numbers here are not indicative of good or bad. It is a range that I am looking for here. If you take a look at a horses good races in it's past performances you may find these numbers to be fairly consistent. You could use this to determine what the typical %median energy winners have at a given distance and track.

What %median energy winning paramater at one track may be very different than at another track. Look at what sprinters do as opposed to routers in %median. These numbers should only be used as guides and not absolutes. If making a track profile I would allow some leeway in these ranges. I have found for example classier sprinters typically have lower %median numbers than their cheaper counterparts. (Think cheap speed here). Turf routers by the very nature of these types of races are run can have %median in the 65-66 range. This will not get it done in sprints or many routes for that matter.

If you are making these types types of records your Track Model should take precedence over your track profile. Your track model is after all a representation of YOUR handicapping and paceline selection. The track profile is just a tool to use to get an idea of where the winning horses are coming from in terms of position and energy expenditure, which may help you in the handicapping process.

Houndog,Thanks for the explanation also telling me the difference between track model and profile. It saves me from asking you another question.Jeff

Jeff: I only use position in limited circumstances. Then I look to see if the horse was passing horses while gaining ground. In essence, I look for what the horse was doing in relation to other horses. I spend much more time looking at fractions in conjunction with beaten lengths. I am looking to see if the horse has the ability to be competitive at today's fulcrum time.

Also, at your request I am posting my screens from Thursday, April 27, 2006, Race 2 at Evangeline. The 5 won and paid 9.40 while the 4 ran second at 70-1 and paid 37.20. I generally play such a long shot with a small win bet and underneath my top pick wheeled in the trifecta. The tri paid 2034.60.

Here is my paceline screen:
